The REAAA NZ recently hosted a debate on the statement “The NOC model is best for the customer” at the Russley Golf Course, Christchurch on 25th October.

The REAAA NZ Committee chose the topic and format based on feedback from recent roadshows and the member interest in the Network Outcomes Contracts.  It was also felt that such an event was a good use of chapter funds and an opportunity to engage with the industry and encourage networking.

The debating teams were:

 Jack Hansby, NZ Transport Agency
Richard Parsons, Beca
Mike Manion, Higgins
Phil Harrison, Downer
Tony Harrison, GHD
 Stephen Lowe, Fulton Hogan

Jack Hansby, NZTA delivering the opening statement for his team

The panel of three judges found themselves with a difficult decision on deciding the overall winners and gave the Against Team the win for the debate and the For Team the win on answering questions from the audience.
The audience however gave the win to the Against Team.

The debate was well attended from the industry with one attendee commenting the debate “Was great – do it again! Right length. Good networking opportunities. Thought provoking.”

A rematch is on the cards for the North Island early 2018 – Watch this space!
