Cement versus Emulsion Treated Stabilisation - A Case Study on Woodlands Road
presented by Jeremy Boyd, Product Manager, Road Science
30 July 2026
The Woodlands Road site provides a valuable case study due to its consistently poor peat subgrade conditions. Performance monitoring indicates that cement-stabilised sections exhibited premature cracking and surface distress within the early service life, consistent with shrinkage-related behaviour and reduced structural flexibility. In contrast, the Emulsion-treated basecourse section has demonstrated markedly improved early-life performance, with enhanced durability and minimal visible distress under equivalent loading and environmental conditions.
